N-ATLaS speech models
- Speech recognition uses the N-ATLaS Háusá, Ìgbò, Yorùbá and Nigerian-accented English speech models, © Awarri Technologies and the Federal Government of Nigeria, used under the N-ATLaS licence. Powered by Awarri.
- The voice packs the app downloads are 8-bit (Full) and 4-bit (Lite) versions of those models, converted by Extrafemi Labs so they can run in a web browser. They are derivative works and remain under the same N-ATLaS licence.
- The licence limits use without a separate commercial licence to services with no more than 1,000 active users in any 30 days, and forbids uses such as surveillance, discriminatory profiling, disinformation and military applications. These limits are reflected in our terms.
- Original models: huggingface.co/NCAIR1.
Translation
Translation is provided by AI models reached through OpenRouter, currently Anthropic's Claude, and is subject to those providers' terms.
Open-source software and fonts
- Whisper model architecture, OpenAI: MIT licence.
- Transformers.js, Hugging Face: Apache License 2.0.
- ONNX Runtime Web, Microsoft: MIT licence.
- Lexend typeface, The Lexend Project: SIL Open Font License 1.1.
- Noto Sans (Hausa hooked letters ɓ, ɗ, ƙ, ƴ), Google: SIL Open Font License 1.1.
- Fonts, software and voice packs are served from our own hosting (Cloudflare), not third-party CDNs.
- Logos of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, NCAIR and ONDI are shown on the About N-ATLaS page only to credit the organisations that implement N-ATLaS. They belong to their owners.
Accuracy
Independent accuracy measurements for the N-ATLaS models are published in Naija Eval. Machine output can be wrong; see section 3 of the terms.
