Terms of use
In short: Naija Transcribe is a free beta. Machine transcription and translation make mistakes, so check the text before you rely on it. Only record people who have agreed to it, and don't use the tool to harm anyone.
1. About these terms
These terms apply when you use Naija Transcribe, run by Extrafemi Labs. By using it you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
2. The service
Naija Transcribe turns Háusá, Ìgbò, Yorùbá and Nigerian-English speech into text on your device, lets you edit and export the text, and can translate it on request. It is a beta: features may change, and it may sometimes be unavailable.
3. Accuracy
- Transcripts and translations are produced by machine-learning models and will contain errors, especially for names, places, technical words, background noise and mixed languages.
- Always check the output before you share it or act on it. Do not rely on it alone for legal, medical, financial, safety or emergency decisions.
4. Your responsibilities
- Only record or upload audio you have the right to use.
- Get the consent of the people you record wherever the law requires it, including under Nigeria's Data Protection Act 2023.
- You are responsible for what you do with your transcripts and translations.
5. Things you must not do
The N-ATLaS speech models that power the app come with a licence that forbids certain uses, and so do we. You must not use Naija Transcribe:
- for surveillance or monitoring people without their knowledge;
- to profile or discriminate against people, for example by ethnicity, religion or region;
- to create or spread disinformation;
- for military purposes, or to exploit or harm anyone;
- to break any law; or
- to overload the service, scrape it, or get around its limits, including the translation limits.
6. Your content
Your recordings, transcripts and translations belong to you. We claim no rights over them. Your audio never reaches us; see the privacy notice for what happens to transcript text when you translate.
7. Limits and availability
We may limit, pause or end access to the service, or to particular features, at any time. One reason is that the N-ATLaS licence caps how many people may use the models each month without a separate licence. Each recording is limited to 60 minutes and 300 MB, and very long recordings may not finish on devices with little memory.
8. Third parties
The speech models are made by Awarri Technologies with the Federal Government of Nigeria. Translation uses AI models reached through OpenRouter. Naija Transcribe is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them. See Legal and licences.
9. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and uninterrupted availability, to the extent the law allows.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Extrafemi Labs is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from errors in transcripts or translations, or from your use of or inability to use the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the service after a change, the new terms apply.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
